ROLE OVERVIEW

The Gelato Scooper & Waiter is the most guest-facing role at Kariton Artisan Gelato. You are the first person a guest interacts with and the last impression they leave with. Your job is not simply to scoop gelato — it is to make the experience of choosing, ordering, and eating it genuinely enjoyable.

Kariton is an artisan brand. Every flavour has a story, a provenance, and a reason it exists on the board. The person behind the counter needs to know and care about those things. Guests notice the difference between someone who is present and someone who is just there. We want people who are present.

ROLE NATURE & FLEXIBILITY

• Shift-based role covering store opening through closing across retail, dine-in, and events service.
• Expected to move between counter scooping, table service, and event operations depending on the day.
• Will be deployed across store locations and external events as scheduling requires.
• Strong performers will be considered for senior scooper, team lead, and events crew roles as Kariton grows.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Gelato Counter & Scooping Service

• Scoop and serve all gelato flavours with consistency in portion size, presentation, and technique — every scoop should look like it was made with care.
• Maintain deep, current knowledge of all flavours on the board: ingredients, key notes, allergens, local sourcing stories, and what makes each one distinct.
• Guide guests through the flavour menu confidently — offer tastings where appropriate, make genuine recommendations, and never rush a decision.
• Prepare all gelato products accurately: cups, cones, pints, take-home packaging, affogatos, floats, and any seasonal specials or limited offerings.
• Operate the gelato display cabinet with care — maintain presentation standards, rotate pans as directed, and flag any texture, temperature, or quality issues immediately.
• Process orders accurately through the POS system and handle cash and card payments with full accountability.

Table & Waiter Service

• Attend to dine-in guests from seating through to departure — take orders, deliver items, and check in without hovering.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-set dining area throughout service — tables cleared promptly, seating reset between guests.
• Anticipate guest needs where possible: refills, napkins, extra spoons for sharing — small gestures that make the experience feel thoughtful.
• Handle takeaway orders and packaging with the same care as dine-in — presentation matters even when the guest is walking out the door.

Product Knowledge & Upselling

• Know the full Kariton product range — flavours, pints, merchandise, seasonal specials, and any partnership or collaboration items.
• Share knowledge naturally and conversationally — not as a sales script, but as genuine enthusiasm for the product.
• Recommend pairings, seasonal highlights, and new arrivals to guests in a way that feels helpful rather than pushy.
• Stay up to date with any menu changes, new flavours, or limited-edition launches communicated by the commissary or management team.

Events & Activations

• Support Kariton pop-ups, catering events, and brand activations as assigned — setting up the station, managing service flow, and maintaining standards outside the store environment.
• Represent the Kariton brand at events with the same warmth and professionalism expected in-store.
• Adapt quickly to different service formats — high-volume event scooping requires a different pace and setup than a quiet retail shift.
• Assist with the transport, setup, and breakdown of gelato equipment and display materials for off-site events.

Store Cleanliness & Maintenance

• Maintain a clean and hygienic counter, display area, and dining space at all times — before, during, and after service.
• Complete all opening and closing checklists assigned to your shift without prompting.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene, and cold-chain handling standards as required by local regulations and Kariton protocols.
• Monitor and report any equipment issues, storage concerns, or supply shortages to the Store Manager immediately.
• Handle all gelato, packaging, and store supplies with care — waste and damage directly affect the team and the product.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely and respectfully with all team members — a smooth shift depends on everyone pulling in the same direction.
• Communicate clearly with the kitchen and commissary team on product availability, restocking needs, and quality concerns.
• Participate in pre-shift briefings and contribute to post-shift feedback when invited.
• Support the onboarding of new team members — share what you know, show them how things are done, and make them feel welcome.
• Bring a positive, reliable energy to every shift — your mood affects the team and the guests.

GENERAL DUTIES & STORE SUPPORT

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Gelato Scooper & Waiter is expected to carry out any reasonable task or duty directed by the Store Manager or Venue Producer that contributes to the smooth running of the store, commissary, or event. This includes but is not limited to restocking, cleaning, packaging assistance, and any operational support the team needs during or outside of a shift. A willingness to do what the moment requires — without being asked twice — is one of the most important qualities we look for at Kariton.
