Job Requirements
- At least 7–10 years of experience in agricultural procurement, fruit purchasing, fresh produce sourcing, or a related field, with several years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Strong experience dealing directly with farmers, contractors, cooperatives, traders, and agricultural suppliers.
- A good understanding of agricultural production cycles, crop seasonality, harvesting, farm-gate pricing, and supply-chain dynamics.
- Strong negotiation and supplier-development capabilities.
- Proven ability to establish new sourcing areas and develop suppliers from the ground up.
- Experience managing a purchasing or field-sourcing team.
- Willingness to travel frequently to farming and production areas.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly in comparing suppliers, pricing, yields, transportation costs, and overall landed raw-material cost.
- Ability to work in a fast-moving environment where fruit availability, quality, and pricing can change quickly.
- Experience sourcing tropical fruits such as mango, calamansi, banana, pineapple, jackfruit, guava, passion fruit, soursop, coconut, ube, or similar agricultural commodities would be a major advantage.
Responsibilities
- Manage the company's overall sourcing and purchasing of fresh fruits and other agricultural raw materials.
- Develop and execute sourcing plans based on production requirements, seasonality, crop availability, pricing, and projected demand.
- Expand our current sourcing network by identifying and developing:
- Farmers and farm groups
- Agricultural contractors
- Cooperatives
- Consolidators and traders
- Commercial farms and plantations
- New fruit-growing areas
- Build direct relationships with farmers and cooperatives to reduce unnecessary intermediaries and improve supply reliability and purchasing economics.
- Negotiate pricing, volumes, delivery schedules, specifications, and commercial terms with suppliers.
- - Monitor farm-gate prices, crop conditions, harvest schedules, weather conditions, supply-demand situations, and other factors affecting fruit availability and cost.
- Develop alternative and backup suppliers for major fruit requirements to reduce supply concentration risk.
- Coordinate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Sales, and Finance regarding fruit requirements and incoming deliveries.
- Ensure purchased fruits meet company specifications for maturity, quality, variety, size, yield, and other processing requirements.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, price, delivery reliability, volume commitment, and responsiveness.
- Develop seasonal procurement plans and forward contracting arrangements where appropriate.
- Manage and develop the four-person Fruit Purchasing team, including territory assignments, sourcing targets, supplier development, and performance monitoring.
- Regularly visit farms, production areas, suppliers, cooperatives, and contractors.
- Maintain accurate supplier databases, purchasing records, price histories, harvest forecasts, and sourcing maps.
- Identify opportunities to lower raw material cost, improve fruit recovery/yield, and strengthen year-round availability.
