Job Summary
The Facilities Services Specialist – Night Shift keeps the mall clean, safe, and fully operational during non-business hours. Operating exclusively within a retail mall setting, this role oversees overnight deep cleaning, checks essential building machinery, manages delivery dock access, and handles basic repairs across high-use areas like escalators, restrooms, food courts, and main walkways. They ensure the property is fully prepped, secure, and ready for shoppers before stores open each morning.
Duties and Responsibilities
Mall Repairs & Equipment Checks
- Walk the property overnight to inspect and perform basic repairs on doors, glass railings, seating areas, signs, and lighting.
- Conduct visual checks on core facility systems, including air conditioning units, power panels, water lines, and pumps.
- Perform basic checks on escalators, elevators, and moving walkways, reporting issues so technicians can fix them before opening.
- Check drainage lines and food court waste traps overnight to prevent clogs and backups into store spaces.
Store & Delivery Supervision
- Oversee overnight contractor work inside stores, ensuring work crews follow safety rules, noise limits, and cleanup guidelines.
- Direct overnight delivery bay traffic, trash collection, and recycling to keep loading docks clear for morning deliveries.
- Assist with turning utilities on or off for stores undergoing scheduled overnight repairs.
Deep Cleaning & Mall Appearance
- Inspect night cleaning crews to ensure common hallways, entrance doors, food courts, and public restrooms are thoroughly cleaned.
- Supervise or run floor-scrubbing and power-washing equipment on main walkway tiles and outdoor entrances.
- Ensure all public areas, including play zones, seating, and directory boards, are clean, working, and ready for customers.
Safety, Security & Shift Handover
- Check all emergency exit doors, alarm panels, and safety signs to keep walkways clear and compliant with safety codes.
- Audit night lockup procedures across exterior doors, back hallways, roof doors, and service corridors.
- Log completed jobs, utility readings, contractor visits, and any issues into the maintenance tracking software.
- Pass clear notes and updates to the incoming morning facilities team at the end of the shift.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic Facility Maintenance: Practical understanding of general upkeep for commercial buildings, including basic repairs, heating/cooling systems, and plumbing.
- Property Safety Knowledge: Understanding of workplace safety standards, fire exit rules, and proper chemical handling.
- Night Shift Reliability: Ability to work independently overnight while staying alert, focused, and organized.
- Crew & Contractor Supervision: Strong communication skills to guide night cleaning staff, security personnel, and outside workers.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle sudden overnight issues like leaks, minor outages, or door jams quickly and calmly.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, trade certificate or vocational training in building maintenance, electrical, or plumbing is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in general building maintenance, ideally in shopping malls, retail centers, or large public venues.
- Experience working night shifts in property operations.
- Practical Skills: Comfortable using basic maintenance tools, floor-cleaning machinery, and mobile work order apps.
- Physical Requirements: Able to walk long distances across the mall, stand for long periods, lift heavy equipment
