Position Summary:
The Assistant Manager of Facilities and Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the effective management and maintenance of all plant machinery, facilities, and support systems to ensure reliable and efficient production operations. This role involves managing preventive maintenance, supporting production and IT, and ensuring safety across all maintenance activities. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will lead projects for new installations and facility improvements while providing technical support and coordinating with external contractors and vendors.
Scope & Responsibilities:
Maintenance Management and Operational Support
- Manage and oversee the total maintenance operations for all Heat-Pipe Vacuum chamber (HP/VC) machines, production equipment, and facility infrastructure to ensure reliable and stable production output. Implement best practices to minimize downtime and enhance machine reliability.
- Design, execute, and continuously improve the plant's preventive maintenance program to maximize the operational lifespan of machinery and equipment. Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules, document maintenance activities, and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Monitor and analyze maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics. Prepare reports on maintenance performance and trends, and develop action plans to address any identified gaps or areas of improvement.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical systems. Ensure that technical issues are promptly resolved to minimize production disruptions, and establish rapid response protocols for emergency repairs.
- Oversee the requisition and inventory management of tools, equipment, and spare parts to ensure availability without excess. Coordinate with procurement to maintain optimal stock levels and manage relationships with key suppliers.
- Collaborate with Production and IT teams to provide technical assistance, support production goals, and address troubleshooting requests from other departments in a timely manner.
Project Management and New Installations
- Lead and manage installation projects for new machines, facility upgrades, and infrastructure improvements. Develop detailed project plans, set milestones, and allocate resources efficiently to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
- Select, negotiate, and manage contracts with external contractors and service providers. Plan, organize, and supervise work performed by external teams, ensuring high standards, regulatory compliance, and timely project completion.
- Track project timelines, milestones, and expenses to ensure projects are completed within the approved budget and timeframe. Implement corrective actions if projects fall behind schedule or exceed budget.
- Identify and implement improvement projects within facilities and maintenance that optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety. Apply industry best practices and lean principles to drive operational excellence.
- Work closely with other departments to understand their needs and incorporate them into project planning. Ensure alignment on project objectives and actively participate in cross-departmental planning and review meetings.
Safety, Compliance, and Personnel Management
- Promote a culture of safety across all maintenance activities. Develop and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular risk assessments, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including OSHA and industry safety standards.
- Develop and maintain emergency response protocols for equipment and facility-related incidents. Train maintenance staff on emergency procedures and conduct drills to ensure readiness.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the maintenance team, providing guidance on best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and professional development opportunities. Conduct performance evaluations and establish individual development plans for team members.
- Ensure that all maintenance personnel are properly trained on safety procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency protocols. Continuously promote safety awareness and accountability among team members.
- Set clear performance goals for maintenance staff, monitor work progress, and provide constructive feedback. Foster a culture of accountability, encouraging staff to take ownership of maintenance quality and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, safety inspections, incidents, and compliance documents. Ensure documentation is updated and accessible for audits and internal reviews.
Other Related Tasks
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Facilities and Maintenance team and ensure efficient operations.
- Assist with special projects or initiatives related to Facilities and Maintenance team as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience managing maintenance operations for facilities and equipment, with a strong emphasis on reliability and uptime at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or assistant managerial role within a facilities or maintenance department, overseeing teams and coordinating activities.
- Proven experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting, with familiarity in managing high-pressure equipment, complex mechanical systems, and production-related infrastructure.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing preventive maintenance strategies to improve machine reliability and reduce operational downtime.
Experience managing facility and equipment projects, such as new installations or upgrades, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating with contractors and suppliers.- Strong background in enforcing safety protocols and maintaining regulatory compliance, ideally with experience conducting safety audits and implementing corrective actions.
- Experience tracking maintenance KPIs and using data analysis to identify performance trends, implement improvements, and drive cost-effective maintenance practices.
