Job summary

Maxicare is seeking an experienced underwriter to support life insurance underwriting, enrollment and eligibility valuation across product lines. You will adhere to guidelines, collaborate with stakeholders, and assist in product development and plan administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business- or medical-related field.
• 2–3 years combined experience in life insurance underwriting/reinsurance across product lines.

• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or equivalent tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs case underwriting tasks (medical and risk profile evaluation) to support profitable growth, retention and client objectives across life insurance product lines.
• Performs enrollment and eligibility valuation tasks.
• Follows underwriting authority guidelines for enrollment, eligibility evaluation, risk acceptance, risk rating and reinsurance placement.
• Requests supervisor assistance for cases beyond own authority.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to resolve underwriting and onboarding improvements for new business.
• Provides underwriting support in product development, pricing, reinsurance and plan administration initiatives.
• Ensures timely updates and monitoring of underwriting systems like MID.
• Seeks mentoring, training and self-development opportunities.
• Adheres to cost controls, expense management and departmental standards.
• Ensures department and individual objectives are met.

Responsibilities:

• Performs case underwriting tasks (medical and risk profile evaluation) that supportsprofitable growth, retention and client objectives across life insurance product lines;
• Performs enrollment and eligibility valuation tasks;
• Adheres to guidelines in the use of underwriting authority related but not limited toenrollment, eligibility evaluation, risk acceptance, risk rating and reinsurance placement.
• Requests for immediate supervisor’s assistance in the underwriting, direction, risk selectionand resolution of cases beyond own authority limit and capacity.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to resolve and identify improvements inunderwriting and onboarding of new business;
• Provide underwriting support in the product development, pricing, reinsurance and planadministration initiatives;
• Ensures timely update and monitoring of underwriting systems like MID;
• Secures relevant mentoring, training and self-development opportunities;
• Follow cost controls, expense management, and standards of the department;
• Ensures departmental and individual objectives are met.
