Job Description

We are looking for experienced Life Insurance Underwriters to join our team at various levels: Junior Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, and Associate Manager – Life Insurance Underwriting. The role involves evaluating life insurance risks, making sound underwriting decisions, and supporting continuous improvement of underwriting processes and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and apply life insurance underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures.
• Evaluate applicants' medical history, physical condition, occupational hazards, and financial background to determine whether to accept, modify, or decline risks.
• Assess and summarize Attending Physician Statements (APS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Underwrite both term and permanent life insurance products.
• Gather and analyze relevant information to support accurate and timely underwriting decisions.
• Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and recommendations through written and verbal communication.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and effectively handle ambiguous or complex cases.
• Contribute to process improvements while maintaining appropriate mortality expectations.
• For the Associate Manager level, lead, mentor, and develop underwriting staff; support recruitment and training; manage performance and quality control; and drive improvements in underwriting workflows and automated processes.

Qualifications

• Junior: 3–5+ years of experience in Medical Life/Health Underwriting.
• Senior: 5–7+ years of experience in Medical Life/Health Underwriting.
• Associate Manager: 10+ years of Life Underwriting experience, including 5+ years in an underwriting leadership or development role.
• US-based underwriting experience is an advantage, particularly for the Junior and Senior roles.
• Strong knowledge of medical, non-medical, and financial risk selection.
• Experience assessing APS and EHR is highly preferred.
• Experience underwriting both term and permanent life insurance products.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for the Associate Manager level.
• Knowledge of life insurance trends and technology is preferred for the Associate Manager role.
• LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, or FALU certifications/designations are preferred.
