Job summary

OpenFX is building cross-border payments infrastructure and is standing up a new Payments pod. As a senior engineering leader, you will own the playbook for launching corridors, ensure repeatable integration, and guarantee live corridor reliability, with a team of 8-15 engineers.

You will work with Compliance, Legal, and product to ship weekly features, design APIs, and maintain strict rollback plans. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Must have EM-level scope: 2+ years managing a full team of 5+ with a Tech Lead reporting in.
• Still writes code and can design an API and runnable, tested code.
• Experience building or operating payment systems in production: orchestration, ledgers, settlement, or reconciliation.
• Has integrated banking, payment, or FX partners and handled sandbox-vs-production drift.
• Deep on distributed systems correctness: idempotency, exactly-once, concurrency, reconciliation as a design concern.
• Experience working with compliance, risk, regulators and negotiating scope.
• Led high-risk production migrations or cutovers with rollback plans.
• Owns on-call and incident command personally.
• Demonstrated hiring and performance management, including underperformance remediation.
• High agency: leadership in ambiguous, demanding environments and building a new pod.

Responsibilities

• Launch new payment corridors — EUR, MXN, COP, AED and beyond — from integration through pilot to general availability.
• Turn corridor launches into repeatable capability with standardized partner integration patterns and defined launch criteria.
• Own the reliability of live corridors: settlement timeliness, failure handling, partner degradation and robust runbooks.
• Translate EU regulatory obligations into running systems: safeguarding funds and transaction monitoring with audit trails.
• Partner with Compliance and Legal to translate obligations into engineering requirements.
• Own the payments product surface across API and GUI: initiation, quoting, tracking, statuses, webhooks, reporting, and dashboards.
• Ship product features weekly with idempotency, exactly-once semantics, backward-compatible evolution, and safe rollouts.
• Run the Payments pod: roadmap ownership, standards, and on-call posture; review designs and contribute code.
• Raise operational maturity: incident handling, deployment hygiene, and measurable delivery metrics.
• Hire and grow the team: recruit, ramp, and manage performance.
