Job summary

Penbrothers is seeking an experienced Team Lead to guide our Manila-based offshore data and backend engineering team. You will drive technical delivery, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Malta-based leadership to ensure autonomous operations.

The role spans hands-on delivery, team management, and cross-functional collaboration within the broader Data & AI function. You will influence data pipelines, architectures, and governance while delivering high-quality data and marketing solutions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building scalable data pipelines and distributed systems.
• Experience with diverse databases (relational, columnar, NoSQL).
• Hands-on with data transformation/orchestration tools (DBT, Airflow).
• Experience with streaming tech (Spark, Kafka, NiFi, Flink).
• Hands-on cloud experience, preferably AWS.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop Data Engineers and a Backend Engineer in Manila, with line management duties.
• Manage sprint planning, backlog, and delivery tracking for data projects.
• Contribute hands-on to data pipelines and platform components.
• Ensure code quality, testing, and documentation through reviews and best practices.
• Design scalable data architectures and modern data platforms (Lakehouse, real-time streaming).
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical deliverables.
• Lead delivery of complex data and marketing projects, manage timelines and risks.
• Improve data quality, reliability, and governance across the platform.
• Support operations: incident mgmt, monitoring, on-call, SLA/KPI tracking.
• Participate in audits and data governance; liaison with Malta-based leadership.
• Contribute to hiring: CV screening and interviewing candidates.
