COMMSEC INC. seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead engineering design for utility-scale power plants, substations, and renewables. You will oversee HV/MV system design from concept through commissioning and ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
You will mentor junior engineers, interface with clients and vendors, and coordinate with NGCP and other Philippine authorities on permitting and approvals.
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the engineering, design, and technical execution of utility-scale power plants, substations, and renewable energy projects. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority, overseeing complex high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) system designs from conceptualization through to commissioning. You will mentor junior engineers, interface directly with clients, and ensure all projects meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Lead Engineering Design: Oversee and approve the preparation of single-line diagrams (SLDs), key schematics, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts for substations (AIS/GIS), thermal power plants, and renewable energy facilities (solar, wind, BESS).
Power System Studies: Perform and validate advanced power system calculations including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, grounding, and lightning protection using specialized software.
Equipment Specification: Establish technical specifications and data sheets for major capital equipment such as power transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, inverters, and high-voltage cabling.
Grid Interconnection: Lead the engineering aspects of grid connection studies, ensuring compliance with transmission grid codes and utility requirements.
Project Oversight: Manage engineering deliverables, budgets, and timelines across multiple concurrent energy projects.
Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous design reviews to guarantee compliance with international standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, ANSI) and local utility regulations.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with civil, structural, mechanical, and project management teams to resolve interdisciplinary design conflicts.
Technical Consulting: Act as the primary technical contact for clients, contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
Vendor Evaluation: Lead technical bid evaluations for equipment procurement and sub-contracted engineering services.
Team Guidance: Mentor and guide junior and mid-level electrical engineers, promoting technical excellence and professional growth within the team.
Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage).
Licensure: Preferably a Philippine Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) or Registered Professional Electrical Engineer license is highly preferred.
Years of Experience: Minimum of 7 to 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design.
Sector Expertise: Proven track record working on utility-scale substations (up to 115kV/230kV/500kV), renewable energy systems (Solar PV, Wind, or Battery Energy Storage Systems), and conventional power generation.
