North Central Michigan College is seeking a Dean of Career and Technical Education to lead the CTE Division, including Public Service, Manufacturing, and Technical programs, and to advise students and faculty.

The Dean will hire and develop faculty, schedule courses, oversee curriculum alignment with accreditation and state standards, forge articulation agreements with local schools and universities, and serve on college committees.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a discipline associated with the division.
  • Evidence of teaching competence at the post-secondary level.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent people skills.
  • Leadership experience in a discipline within the division.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience.
  • Proactive critical thinking skills and experience.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation and assessment strategies.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, supervises, evaluates, recognizes, disciplines, and provides professional development for departmental faculty and staff in accordance with objectives, goals, policies, professional standards and guidelines, certification, quality assurance, procedures, and practices.
  • Schedules CTE division courses, ensuring consistency of course content and outcomes using master course syllabi, coordinating textbook orders by faculty; and academic advising.
  • Conducts periodic curriculum review and development, per college, state, or accreditor requirements.
  • Develops and maintains internal and external articulation, dual enrollment arrangements with local secondary schools and transfer agreements to regional universities.
  • Recommends and develops new courses and program offerings and the semester-to-semester scheduling of courses and programs.
  • Supervises and provides for orientation and evaluation of probationary faculty, their professional development, and recommendations for full-time status.
  • Assists the Dean of Business, Education & Adjunct Faculty with the recruitment and selection of adjunct faculty, including orientation, communications, and activities monitoring.
  • Responsible for development, recommendation, implementation, and monitoring of division budgets including instructional supplies, travel, contractual services, equipment, and others.
  • Develops and monitors divisional reports for student success, funding, licensing, accreditation, strategic planning, assessment; financial, academic, and curricular; and other requirements.
  • Chairs divisional meetings and provides divisional representation in institutional committees.
  • Serves as the College’s contact in dealing with the appropriate State of Michigan agencies, attending relevant meetings with statewide occupational educators/administrators and State staff.
  • Prepares and submits various occupation education-related reports and summaries (such as Perkins Local Annual/Local Leader grant applications).
  • Actively pursues recognized accreditation in Career and Technical Education areas to enhance program reputation and provide recognition for college and students.
  • Adheres to requirements of accreditation agencies for programs within the division. Prepares reports and maintains course records and documents required for accreditation.
  • Establishes and maintains Career and Technical Education program policies and Handbooks consistent with professional guidelines and North Central Michigan College standards.
  • Collaborates and promotes positive relationships with professionals and organizations within the CTE community and serves as a conduit by which the college learns and decides to implement new programming and ideas in response to local, regional, or state workforce needs.
  • Promotes professional collaboration and problem solving with college personnel, students, community and industry members, and related representatives and visitors.
  • Serves on College committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
