Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a hands-on Contract Accountant to support month-end close and day-to-day operational accounting for compute and infrastructure costs. The role translates contracts, pricing, usage, and invoices into accruals, true-ups, and journal-entry support while working with finance, procurement, and data teams to ensure accurate, audit-ready outputs.

The position emphasizes process discipline, cross-functional coordination, and responsible use of AI tools to scale efficiency.

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience including hands-on operational accounting.
• Strong month-end and quarter-end close experience with accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience interpreting contracts, invoices, and large operational datasets into accounting outcomes.
• Advanced spreadsheet and data-analysis skills and experience using an ERP or comparable finance system.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including accruals, true-ups, journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Prepare journal-entry support with account and cost-center coding; monitor approvals and status.
• Perform vendor- and contract-level reconciliations; monitor actuals vs accruals and support reporting.
• Support lease, fixed-asset, and infrastructure accounting tasks as assigned.
• Follow established policies, controls, and audit readiness; resolve issues with cross-functional teams.
