Job summary

Manulife Balance Sheet Substantiation COE seeks a Senior Finance Analyst to ensure accuracy and compliance of balance sheet accounts, enhance reconciliation processes, and support financial reporting.

Role involves working with regional offices and business units to improve governance and efficiency, driving standard reconciliation practices and providing insightful commentary for business reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is an advantage.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting operations and/or financial reporting experience; insurance industry preferred.
• Strong stakeholder management, persuasion, relationship-building, negotiation.
• Experience in shared services/offshore teams is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong technical accounting skills with a solid accounting environment knowledge.
• Advanced Excel; PowerBI experience advantageous.
• Self-starter, detail-oriented, ownership-minded.
• Able to cope in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with continuous improvement mindset.
• Strong oral/written communication with senior officers across divisions.
• Project management skills advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Drive standard balance sheet substantiation process end-to-end.
• Perform accurate balance sheet reconciliations, including insurance accounts.
• Provide timely, accurate balance sheet commentary for business reviews.
• Collaborate with regional teams and local business units to ensure complete information.
• Ensure IFRS17/GAAP compliance and adherence to company policy.
• Identify and resolve reconciliation discrepancies with finance partners.
• Escalate unresolved issues to management promptly.
• Participate in governance meetings with stakeholders.
• Maintain documentation and audit trails of reconciliations.
• Share best practices and drive process improvements.
• Evaluate tools (Anaplan, Alteryx, PowerSuite, Workiva) for improvements.
• Utilize Enterprise Data Lake as data source for reconciliations and analysis.
• Provide guidance and training to junior team members.
• Engage in regional priority and strategic projects.
