Job summary

VAP is seeking an experienced Australian Cost Estimator to support an Australian construction business with accurate cost estimates, pricing, and project costing. You'll review project plans, prepare estimates and quotations, and ensure costs are captured.

This role requires reading drawings, obtaining supplier pricing, and collaborating with Australian teams. You will manage multiple projects, identify cost risks, and help with budgeting and forecasting across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Experience as Cost Estimator, Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, or similar role.
• Experience supporting an Australian construction company.
• Strong understanding of Australian construction practices, materials, and costing.
• Experience preparing project estimates, take-offs, quotations, or cost plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quantity take-offs and calculate material, labour, and project costs.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Australian Cost Estimator to support an Australian construction business with accurate cost estimates, pricing, and project costing. You'll be responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing estimates and quotations, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, and ensuring project costs are accurately captured.

Ideal Candidate (Must Have Requirements)

• Previous experience as a Cost Estimator, Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, or similar role
• Experience working with or supporting an Australian construction company
• Strong understanding of Australian construction practices, materials, and costing
• Experience preparing project estimates, quantity take-offs, quotations, or cost plans
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
• Experience obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Good understanding of construction materials, labour costs, and project expenses
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating or construction software
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Able to work independently while collaborating with Australian-based teams

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, plans, specifications, and project requirements
• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects
• Conduct quantity take offs and calculate material, labour, and project costs
• Obtain, review, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Research current material, labour, and construction costs
• Prepare quotations, tender submissions, and cost breakdowns
• Identify cost risks, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost optimisation
• Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing databases, and supporting documentation
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, and other stakeholders
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle
• Review project scope changes and assess their cost impact
• Ensure estimates are completed accurately and within required deadlines
• Support the Australian team with general estimating and costing requirements
