Job description

Asst. Chief Engineer responsible for supervising engineering personnel in the Engineering Department, supporting all operating departments, and maintaining equipment, building and grounds in optimum condition. The role includes responsibility and accountability for the operation, repair and maintenance of hotel facilities, equipment, supply of utilities and associated machineries, and acting as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Chief Engineer.

Key responsibilities

Supervise all engineering personnel in the Engineering Department and support all other operating departments

Delegate duties and responsibilities to the Shift Engineer as required

Assist to develop and implement a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Program for all equipment in the hotel

Assume full charge of building maintenance, back of the house, Food & Beverage areas, guestrooms and public areas rehabilitation

Establish a regular planned guestroom servicing program

Supervise maintenance of road surfaces and grounds, walkways and service paths

Establish, maintain and enforce the day-to-day requirements of maintenance requests from all departments

Personally inspect all major breakdown of equipment and damage of property for repair or rectification

Inspect at least twice monthly the entire building with particular attention on defective or deficient life safety features

Assume full responsibility for the perfect functional condition of all alarm systems and firefighting equipment

Monitor and control closely all utility consumption and ensure optimum energy usage by all departments in the hotel

Implement a monthly departmental training plan ensuring the necessary skills of all employees to perform their duties with maximum efficiency

Evaluate all submissions by consultants on works to be done by outside contractors and supervise contracted projects

Establish a well-organized Engineering Store and keep close control on consumption of materials, stores and inventory control

Implement a comprehensive elevator emergency procedure and initiate employee training on emergency release procedures

About you

Licensed Engineer with at least 3 years of hotel experience

Ability to supervise engineering personnel

Knowledge of building maintenance and equipment repair

Understanding of life safety procedures and fire safety equipment

Ability to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs

Experience with utility management and energy efficiency

Capability to manage outside contractors and evaluate consultant submissions

Skills in inventory control and materials management

Ability to conduct inspections and identify deficiencies
