Job summary

BDO Unibank, Inc. in the Philippines seeks an AS400 Engineer responsible for the efficiency and availability of assigned servers and for providing technical support to application development teams.

You will handle system and database administration, server upgrades, maintenance, security, and incident resolution, working onsite in Ortigas with cross-team collaboration.

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or higher in CS or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Willingness to work on-site in Ortigas, Philippines.

Responsibilities

• Ensure assigned servers are efficient, secure and available to meet business needs.
• Recommend upgrades or replacements for servers as needed.
• Perform regular tasks as directed by leads and team leads.
• Coordinate with developers/vendors on server use, upgrades, configuration, and monitoring.
• Assist development teams with server-related technical issues.
• Research new approaches for system and database administration.
• Contribute to technical contingency plans for servers.

Job Summary

Responsible for the efficiency and availability of, and the timely resolution of issues and requests related to assigned servers. The AS400 Engineer also provides technical support required by application development teams.

Key Responsibilities:

A. System and Database Administration

1. Implement measures that enable assigned servers to meet business requirements for efficiency, capacity, security, and availability

2. Make recommendations on the upgrade or replacement of servers

3. Perform regular tasks as assigned by the leads

4. Review and plan (together with the application developers or vendors) server use, upgrades, configuration and installation, maintenance, security and monitoring

5. Assist development teams with technical issues related to servers

6. Research and recommend new approaches for system and database administration

7. Provide inputs in the implementation of the technical contingency plans for the servers supported by the team

B. Request and Issue Resolution

1. Resolve assigned requests and issues in a timely manner consistent with approved policies and procedures

2. Assist other teams and fellow engineers to diagnose and resolve server- and database-related problems

3. Escalate issues and requests in accordance with policy and procedure

4. Work with the application development teams and, if necessary hardware and software vendors, for server- and database-related problems and their resolution

C. Other Functions

1. Participate in training programs and team meetings

2. Assist the leads to formulate policies and procedures

3. Recommend changes and improvements to policies and procedures

4. Perform other related functions that may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree, preferably BS Computer Science or related course
• At least 3 years of relevant experience
• Must be willing to work onsite and be assigned in Ortigas
