Job summary

Zurich Instruments in Boston seeks an Application Scientist to apply technical expertise to solve challenges and contribute to our fast-growing company. This role blends deep technical work with customer-facing impact in a dynamic environment.

You will support US customers with T&M instruments, perform demos, build relationships, and produce technical content while developing commercial skills. Applicants must have a PhD or Masters in a related field and be legally authorized to work in the USA.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related experimental science with hands-on lab experience.
• Experience with dynamic signal measurement; familiarity with lock-in detection, impedance spectroscopy, or waveform generation is a plus.
• Proficiency in scientific programming, especially Python, for instrument control and data analysis.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to academic and industrial audiences.
• Customer-focused mindset and interest in developing commercial skills.
• Self-driven, proactive, and able to work independently across a large territory.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert application support to US customers using T&M instruments.

As an Application Scientist, you will be part of our marketing and sales team in Boston. Your responsibilities

• Provide expert application support to customers across the US working with ZI's T&M instruments (lock-in amplifiers, impedance analyzers, AWGs)
• Conduct onsite system integration, demos, and training at customer laboratories
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support sales growth and customer retention
• Represent Zurich Instruments at trade shows, conferences, and academic events across the US
• Collaborate with the global sales and product teams to relay customer feedback and application insights
• Produce technical content including application notes, presentations, product documentation, and demo videos
• Actively develop your commercial skills in a role that blends deep technical work with customer-facing impact

Your profile

• PhD or Master's in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related experimental science with hands-on lab experience
• Solid practical experience with dynamic signal measurement — familiarity with lock-in detection, impedance spectroscopy, or waveform generation is a strong plus
• Comfortable with scientific programming, ideally Python, for instrument control and data analysis
• Strong communicator who can explain complex technical concepts clearly to both academic and industrial audiences
• Customer-oriented mindset with a genuine interest in building relationships and developing commercial skills
• Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable working independently across a large territory
