Job summary

F&Q Accounting Services seeks an Accounting Supervisor to lead a team of accounting professionals, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation of all work. You will coach staff, develop procedures, and strengthen internal controls to deliver reliable financial statements for clients.

The role requires extensive experience with the full accounting cycle, US GAAP knowledge, and strong communication to train staff and manage multiple clients against monthly deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA is preferred but not required.
• Preferred: public accounting or multi-client bookkeeping experience.
• Seven to ten years of experience on full-accounting cycle, including at least four years in a supervisory capacity.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Desktop; advanced Excel (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliation and roll-forward schedules).
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP for closely held businesses, and the judgment to know when an issue needs research or escalation.
• Written communication strong enough that procedures and review notes can be acted on without explanation; proven ability to train staff and manage multiple clients against monthly deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review preparer work. Confirm every transaction is posted to the correct account, period, and entity, is properly supported, and is classified consistently with prior periods.
• Reconciliations. Review or perform monthly bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations, splitting loan payments between principal and interest against the lender's amortization schedule.
• Balance sheet review. Substantiate every material account to independent support, tie subledgers to their control accounts, maintain roll-forward schedules, and clear suspense and uncategorized accounts before release.
• Profit and loss review. Perform month-over-month, year-over-year, and budget-to-actual variance review; test cutoff, classification, and margin reasonableness; document the explanation for every material variance.
• Complex transactions. Research, record, and document non-routine items — fixed assets and depreciation, leases, debt and refinancing, accruals and deferrals, payroll, sales tax, inventory, related-party and multi-entity activity, revenue recognition, and prior-period corrections.
• Written procedures and training manual. Author and maintain the firm's accounting procedures as a numbered, dated, version-controlled library. Review annually and update within 30 days of any process, software, or regulatory change.
• Staff training and development. Serve as first-line technical guidance, onboard new staff from the written procedures, use review notes to teach the principle behind the correction, and convert recurring errors into training or a new control.
• Close management and client communication. Own the month-end close calendar for assigned clients, review the financial statement package, explain results to clients in plain language, and deliver a closed, reconciled trial balance to the tax team at year end.
