We are looking for an experienced and dependable Program Accountant Team Lead who can manage accounting engagements while guiding a team of Program Accountants.
The role combines hands-on accounting work, client coordination, quality review, deadline management, and team leadership. The successful candidate will help ensure that client accounts, financial reports, tax and statutory requirements, and other agreed deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Client Management
- Oversee the delivery of accounting and bookkeeping services for assigned clients.
- Review financial reports, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents prepared by the team.
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
- Ensure that client deliverables are accurate, complete, properly documented, and submitted within the agreed timeline.
- Coordinate directly with clients regarding accounting requirements, missing documents, unresolved balances, and other concerns.
- Assist in preparing financial statements, management reports, and other client-specific reports.
- Monitor compliance with applicable BIR, SEC, and other government requirements.
- Identify discrepancies, control gaps, and potential compliance issues and recommend corrective action.
- Maintain the confidentiality and proper handling of client financial information.
- Supervise and provide day-to-day guidance to Program Accountants and Accounting Associates.
- Assign client accounts and deliverables based on team capacity, competency, and deadlines.
- Review the team's workload, progress, and pending requirements.
- Conduct regular check-ins, coaching sessions, and performance discussions.
- Provide technical guidance on accounting treatments, documentation, reconciliation, and reporting concerns.
- Support the onboarding and training of newly hired team members.
- Evaluate the quality and timeliness of team outputs and implement improvement plans when necessary.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and professional client service within the team.
- Escalate critical client, compliance, or performance concerns to Management.
Process and Quality Improvement
- Help establish standardized accounting procedures, templates, trackers, and review controls.
- Monitor turnaround times, recurring errors, overdue deliverables, and client dependencies.
- Recommend improvements to make accounting processes more efficient and reliable.
- Coordinate with other internal teams to resolve operational and client-related concerns.
- Prepare regular status reports covering accomplishments, pending deliverables, risks, and required management support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Accounting Technology, Management Accounting, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant is an advantage but not required.
- At least three years of relevant experience in general accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, or client accounting services.
- Previous experience supervising, coaching, or leading an accounting team is strongly preferred.Experience working in an accounting firm, consultancy, business process outsourcing company, or multi-client environment is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of Philippine accounting practices and government compliance requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Experience using QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting software is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, problem-solving, and review skills.
- Capable of managing multiple client accounts and competing deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, accountable, and comfortable dealing directly with clients.
