Job description

The Accounting Officer serves as a critical bridge between day-to-day financial operations and strategic management. This role is responsible for leading a small team of Finance Officers to ensure the integrity of the companys accounting records, cash management, and complex reconciliation processes.

The ideal candidate acts as a "quality controller," reviewing financial outputs for accuracy while maintaining efficient workflows.

You will focus heavily on lending transactions and settlements, ensuring that all discrepancies are resolved and that the Finance Manager receives high-level, decision-ready reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Supervision & Coordination
  • Directly supervise and coordinate the daily work of two Accounting Officers
  • Review work outputs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies.
  • Allocate tasks, set priorities, and monitor workload distribution to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Act as the first-level escalation point for operational finance issues.
  • Accounting & Cash Management Oversight
  • Oversee cash handling, internal bookkeeping, and transaction recording.
  • Review accounting entries and supporting documents prepared by the Accounting Officers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate coordination with external accounting firms and auditors.
  • Monitor cash flow positions and flag anomalies or risks promptly.
  • Reconciliation & Settlement Supervision
  • Supervise daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation activities related to lending transactions, collections, and settlements.
  • Review reconciliation reports and ensure discrepancies are identified, explained, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to address reconciliation issues affecting operations or reporting.
  • Reporting & Control
  • Consolidate operational finance reports and submit summarized, decision-ready information to the Finance Manager.
  • Assist in preparing periodic management reports and regulatory-related finance data.
  • Support the improvement and enforcement of internal controls, SOPs, and documentation standards.
  • Process Improvement & Support
  • Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, or operational risks and propose practical improvements.
  • Assist in onboarding, training, and mentoring finance team members.
  • Support ad-hoc finance tasks and special projects as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications
  • Experience: At least 3 years of Finance/Accounting work as a supervisor; CPA license is not required.
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (debits, credits, chart of accounts)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel (Vlookup, pivot tables are a plus)
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
