Key Responsibilities

Watchkeeping & Engine Room Operations

Machinery Maintenance & System Management

Air Compressors & Systems: Maintain starting air compressors, control air dryers, and air receivers.

Boilers & Feedwater Systems: Monitor auxiliary boiler operation, water testing, chemical dosing, and soot blowing.

Bunkering Operations: Assist the 2nd Engineer during fuel and lube oil bunkering, including taking soundings, aligning pipe manifolds, and taking representative samples.

Fuel & Lube Oil Systems: Operate and maintain fuel/lube oil purifiers (centrifuges), oil transfer pumps, viscosity controllers, and oil filtering units.

Auxiliary Engines / Generators: Manage routine maintenance, filter changes, and overhaul schedules for auxiliary engines.

Record key operational logs, tank soundings, and performance readings accurately during shifts.

Monitor running main engine and auxiliary engines, parameters (temperatures, pressures, oil levels), and auxiliary equipment.

Stand regular engine room watches (typically 0000-0400 / 1200-1600 in traditional 3-watch systems) or participate in UMS (Unattended Machinery Space) duty rotation.
