Job Summary
The accountant oversees the day-to-day finance and accounting activities of the business operations in Oman. The role requires strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of financial controls, distributor operations, and corporate compliance requirements.
The successful candidate will manage end-to-end accounting processes, ensure accurate financial reporting, support working capital management, and maintain compliance with Al Safi Danone (ASD) policies, procedures, and approval matrices.
The role also requires close coordination with the sales team, distributors, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth financial operations and effective control of business activities.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure the proper recording of all financial transactions related to the Oman operations.
- Manage the Accounts Receivable (AR) process and maintain an accurate customer aging report.
- Perform customer account reconciliations and balance confirmations, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Follow up with Oman's sales team to ensure the timely collection of outstanding receivables.
- Manage and monitor the Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) cycle, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of vendor transactions.
- Review and validate monthly expense claims submitted by the distributor, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation and compliance with approved budgets.
Control and Compliance
- Review and monitor Trade Marketing and Discounts & Allowances (D&A) expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets and company policies.
- Ensure that all financial transactions comply with ASD policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
- Support internal and external audit requirements and ensure the timely closure of audit observations.
Reporting and Financial Close
- Prepare monthly accruals and other period-end journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Prepare and submit accurate, complete, and timely financial reports for the Oman operations.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and management reports as requested by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience in a similar role.
- Experience working within a distributor business model is highly preferred.
- Experience in the FMCG or dairy industry is an advantage.
