Job summary

Muscat University in Oman invites applications for an Assistant Librarian to support daily library operations, including cataloguing, shelving, and assisting users with databases and digital resources. Morning and afternoon shifts, plus Saturdays, are scheduled by the LRC head.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc in Instructional and Learning Technologies or IT, with training or work experience preferred, and strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• BSc in Instructional and Learning Technologies or equivalent.
• Training and work experience are preferable.
• Customer-service oriented, patient, and detail-driven.
• Understanding of library management systems.
• Skilled in using research tools and online databases.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and organize library collections (books and textbooks).
• Assist in cataloguing and classification of resources.
• Process physical books and shelve them.
• Conduct inventory and track newly purchased books.
• Support users in navigating databases and online catalogs.
• Assist in library programs, workshops, and community activities.
• Handle lending and returns with library management systems.
• Maintain fines records and prepare overdue lists.
• Perform administrative tasks such as data entry and inquiries.
• Support digital library services and content updates.
• Assist in acquisitions of books.
