Job summary

Nelson Intermediate in Nelson, NZ is seeking a positive science kaiako for a part-time fixed-term role (0.6 FTE) starting 28 January 2027 and ending 27 January 2028. You will join our STEAM department to deliver Science to Years 1–8, with a focus on engaging learners and culturally responsive practice.

The successful candidate will contribute to school-wide initiatives, build strong relationships with students, whānau and staff, and apply NZ curriculum knowledge and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

Qualifications

• Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8) teaching with NZ certificated teacher status.
• Sound knowledge of the NZ curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa with effective pedagogy.
• Willingness to participate in a professional growth cycle to enhance ākonga outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain engaging relationships with ākonga, staff and whānau.
• Place ākonga at the centre of their mahi.
• Have a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Develop a culturally relational and responsive classroom environment.
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with ākonga and whānau.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Have sound knowledge of the NZ curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and use effective pedagogy to support its implementation.
• Effectively engage in a professional growth cycle to enhance high ākonga outcomes.

This is a 0.68 fixed-term position (or a higher FTTE by negotiation).
