Job summary

Toyota New Zealand in Hobsonville is seeking an experienced Workshop Controller to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy service workshop. You will report to the Aftersales Manager and ensure safe, efficient and productive workshop activities, coordinating workflow and supporting technicians with guidance.

You will oversee quality control, liaise with Service Advisors to communicate repairs to customers, and drive high standards of safety and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in a senior automotive workshop leadership role.
  • Experience coordinating and directing technicians in a high-volume workshop.
  • Experience monitoring productivity, efficiency and work-in-progress (WIP).
  • Experience liaising with customers regarding repairs, maintenance and technical issues.
  • Experience coordinating with Parts and Warranty functions.
  • Experience managing workshop KPIs and performance outcomes.
  • A valid full driver licence.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily workshop operations to maximise productivity.
  • Allocate and monitor work to ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain the workshop QC process and address recurring issues with technicians.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to technicians including complex diagnostics.
  • Communicate repair progress, delays and additional work requirements to customers clearly.
  • Coach, mentor and support technicians and apprentices.
  • Collaborate with Service Advisors and other departments to support workshop flow.

About the role

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy service workshop in Hobsonville.

Reporting to the Aftersales Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our workshop operates safely, efficiently and productively. You'll coordinate workflow, support our technicians with technical guidance, oversee quality control processes and work closely with our Service Advisors to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

Key responsibilities

As Workshop Controller, you'll be responsible for:

  • Coordinating daily workshop operations to maximise productivity, efficiency and workshop capacity.
  • Allocating and monitoring work to ensure all repairs are completed on time and to Toyota's high standards of safety and quality.
  • Managing and maintaining the workshop quality control (QC) process, including completing random quality checks and addressing recurring issues with technicians.
  • Ensuring technicians accurately interpret repair orders and complete work correctly the first time.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to technicians while assisting with complex diagnostic or repair concerns.
  • Supporting technician development by encouraging and coordinating required Toyota New Zealand and internal training.
  • Working closely with Service Advisors to communicate repair progress, delays and additional work requirements to customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Monitoring inbound, current and upcoming repair orders to maintain efficient workshop flow and maximise customer satisfaction.
  • Supporting warranty procedures and ensuring Toyota processes are consistently followed.
  • Maintaining a safe, compliant workshop environment and promoting strong health and safety practices.
  • Protecting and maintaining workshop equipment, tools and company assets.
  • Keeping up to date with Toyota service schedules, technical bulletins, VIRM updates and manufacturer information.
  • Liaising with Toyota New Zealand on technical reporting and communication requirements.
  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting technicians, particularly apprentices, to help them succeed in their careers.
  • Working collaboratively with other departments and, when required, supporting our other group locations across Auckland.
What we're looking for
  • Ability to work on rostered Saturdays
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Workshop Controller, Workshop Foreman, Service Advisor or Service Manager, or similar senior automotive workshop leadership role
  • Experience coordinating and directing technicians in a high-volume automotive workshop.
  • Experience monitoring workshop productivity, efficiency and work-in-progress.
  • Experience liaising with customers regarding vehicle repairs, maintenance and technical issues.
  • Experience coordinating with Parts and Warranty functions.
  • Experience managing workshop KPIs and performance outcomes.
  • A full driver licence.

Details
  • Location: 8 Workspace Drive, Hobsonville Auckland
  • Full time
  • Minimum guaranteed weekly hours - 45 hours per week
  • Monday through to Friday, 7am-4.30pm, plus rostered Saturdays 8am-12pm
  • Competitive remuneration - between $100,000 and $110,000 (depending on experience) - includes Kiwisaver
