Job summary

Stellar Recruitment in Auckland is seeking an experienced Welding Inspector / QA Engineer to join a well-established engineering and fabrication business. This hands-on role focuses on welding quality and quality management systems, driving continuous improvement across processes.

You will inspect welds, verify WPS/PQR compliance, review welder qualifications, manage ITPs and coordinate NDT activities, ensuring traceability and compliant documentation for projects.

Qualifications

  • Welding inspection experience and strong quality focus.
  • Familiar with welding standards and client requirements.
  • Ability to manage quality documentation and records.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect weld preparation, fit-up, welding processes and completed welds.
  • Verify compliance with approved WPS/PQR requirements.
  • Review welder qualifications and welding procedure documentation.
  • Identify weld defects and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Coordinate and review Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities.
  • Review NDT reports and ensure corrective actions are closed out.
  • Maintain weld maps, weld registers and inspection records.

Duration: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Welding Inspector / QA Engineer to join a well-established engineering and fabrication business in Auckland. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who understands both welding quality requirements and quality management systems. You will play a key role in ensuring fabrication and welding activities are completed to the highest standards, while driving continuous improvement across the company's quality processes. Working closely with workshop and site teams, you will help ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications, client requirements and internal quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect weld preparation, fit-up, welding processes and completed welds
  • Verify compliance with approved WPS/PQR requirements
  • Review welder qualifications and welding procedure documentation
  • Identify weld defects and recommend corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Coordinate and review Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities
  • Review NDT reports and ensure corrective actions are properly closed out
  • Maintain weld maps, weld registers and inspection records
  • Verify material identification and traceability requirements
  • Prepare inspection reports, quality records and documentation
  • Manage and continually improve the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Support internal and external quality audits
  • Assist with non-conformance investigations and corrective actions
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • AS/NZS 2214 Welding Inspector qualification, or equivalent
  • Alternatively, AS 1796 Certificate 10 or similar welding inspection certification
  • Proven experience in welding and fabrication inspectionExperience inspecting structural steel, piping systems, pressure piping, or heavy fabrication
  • Strong understanding of welding standards and quality requirements
  • Experience with WPS/PQRs, welder qualifications, weld maps and inspection records
  • Experience operating or managing an ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
