Job summary

Trade Assist NZ is seeking skilled Welders for a variety of projects around Auckland. The role offers competitive hourly rates and a minimum of 30 hours per week with opportunities to work night shifts or early starts.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of relevant experience or NZQF level 5 or above, a full driver’s licence, and is reliable, proactive and fluent in English. Pre-employment drug testing and MOJ clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience or NZQF level 5 qualifications or above.
• A full driver''s licence.
• Availability for night shifts and early mornings (from 6am) when required, and weekends when required.
• Professional, punctual, motivated and proactive approach with excellent communication skills (including English).
• Pre-employment drug test required.
• Clean MOJ required.
• Flexible to work in nearby regions and complete assignments as required.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to establish job requirements.
• Choose, clean and prepare metal stock.
• Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes with hand tools, flame-cutting torches and metal-cutting machines.
• Form and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, heating and hammering.
• Position and align parts for joining with hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Fuse metal sections using a range of welding techniques, with bolting and riveting.
• Check welds for bead width, penetration and accuracy.
• Finish products through cleaning, polishing, filing and treatment in acidic solutions.
• Smooth and clean welds by filing, chiselling and grinding.
• Order and collect required materials from suppliers.
• Carry out tasks outside the workshop when required.
