Job summary

Allen Custom Drills in Mid Canterbury, NZ, is seeking an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator to join the production team in Ashburton. This hands-on role covers light to heavy steel fabrication, building components that become world-class Air Seeder Drills.

You’ll read CAD drawings, measure accurately and weld across 3mm–25mm steel, with fit-up and test-fitting as part of the build. You’ll operate presses, lathes and saws, carry out material checks and safety checks, and contribute across

Qualifications

  • At least two years’ MIG welding experience.
  • Able to read CAD drawings and fabrication plans.
  • Able to work accurately to measurements and tolerances.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, team environment.

Responsibilities

  • MIG weld across steel from 3mm to 25mm.
  • Prepare and fabricate components and sub-assemblies.
  • Read CAD drawings and measure to specifications.
  • Fit-up and test-fit components as part of builds.
  • Operate workshop equipment including presses, lathes and saws.
  • Perform material and quality checks and final testing.
  • Follow production procedures and safety rules.
  • Contribute across production to keep workflow moving.

Allen Custom Drills is looking for an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator to join their production team in Ashburton.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll be working across light to heavy steel fabrication, building components that ultimately become world-class Air Seeder Drills.

We’re looking for someone who knows their way around a workshop, can read drawings, takes pride in getting things right and enjoys being part of a team where everyone gets stuck in.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • MIG welding across steel from approximately 3mm to 25mm
  • Preparing and fabricating components and sub-assemblies
  • Reading CAD drawings and working accurately to measurements
  • Fit-up and test-fitting components as part of the build process
  • Operating workshop equipment including presses, lathes and saws
  • Carrying out material checks, quality checks and final testing
  • Working safely and following established production procedures
  • Pitching in across production when needed to keep things moving
What We’re Looking For

Ideally, you’ll have at least two years’ MIG welding experience and be confident working across both light and heavier fabrication.

Formal welding qualifications or tickets would be great, but they’re not essential. What matters most is that you can do the job well and take pride in the quality of your work.

You’ll also need to be:

  • Confident reading CAD drawings and fabrication plans
  • Accurate and able to work to measurements
  • Reliable and proactive
  • Safety conscious
  • Comfortable working as part of a practical, hands-on team
  • Someone who takes responsibility for their work and does the right thing, even when no one is watching
