Job summary

Unison Group in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, is seeking a hands-on Warehouse Operations Lead to manage the Hastings warehouse team and ensure efficient stock control and timely material distribution. Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, you will coordinate daily activities, support inbound and outbound logistics, and drive improvements across picking, returns and cycle checks.

This role blends leadership with practical warehouse operations, requiring at least four years in stores or stock control, MRP

Qualifications

  • At least four years' stores or relevant stock control and staff supervision experience.
  • Proficient in MRP and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Current OSH Forklift Operators Certificate; F endorsed forklift licence desirable.
  • Stores, warehouse or logistics courses would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy with figures, effective communication and a team-player mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and co-ordinate the daily activities of the Warehouse Materials Co-ordinators, including temporary and seconded team members.
  • Control workflow to meet stock requisition picking, material returns, stock replenishment and cycle check deadlines.
  • Support day-to-day inwards and outwards logistics, monitor backorders and update requisitions to achieve DIFOT levels.
  • Work with the Inventory Controller and MRP systems to ensure timely material procurement and appropriate inventory levels.
  • Carry out cycle checking and annual stocktakes, maintain transformer, switch and cable registers, and assist with reporting.
  • Deliver excellent internal and external customer service, optimise salvage and scrap material recovery, and drive continuous improvements.

The Opportunity:

We're looking for a hands-on Warehouse Operations Lead to join our Corporate Services division in Hastings, Hawke's Bay.

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, you'll take charge of the day-to-day co-ordination of our Hastings warehouse team and deliver an efficient, effective and prompt service to the business. Accurate processing of stock requisitions, material distribution and stock availability are at the heart of what you'll do.

This is a varied role that blends leadership with practical warehouse operations. You'll keep work flowing across picking, returns, replenishment and cycle checks, partner with the Inventory Controller, internal teams, contractors and suppliers, and look for smarter ways of doing things, all while building the capability of the people around you.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Leading and co-ordinating the daily activities of the Warehouse Materials Co-ordinators, including temporary and seconded team members.
  • Controlling team workflow so stock requisition picking, material returns, stock replenishment and cycle check deadlines are met.
  • Supporting day-to-day inwards and outwards logistics, monitoring backorders and updating requisitions to achieve DIFOT levels.
  • Working with the Inventory Controller and MRP systems to ensure timely material procurement and inventory levels that align with operational demand.
  • Carrying out cycle checking, and annual stocktakes if required, maintaining the transformer, switch and cable registers, and assisting with operational reporting.
  • Delivering excellent customer service to internal and external parties, optimising salvage and scrap material recovery, and recommending continuous improvements.
What You'll Bring:
  • At least four years' stores or relevant stock control and staff supervision experience.
  • MRP and Microsoft suite skills.
  • A current OSH Forklift Operators Certificate; an F endorsed forklift licence is desirable.
  • Stores, warehouse or logistics courses would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy with figures, effective communication and a genuine team-player approach.
