Job summary

Gibbston Valley Wines is seeking a hands-on Warehouse Lead Operator to own day-to-day warehouse logistics and inventory operations. Reporting to the Head of Wine, you will safeguard premium wine inventory, maintain stock records, and manage dispatch workflows across distributor, export, trade, cellar door, and Wine Club channels.

Your responsibilities include weekly counts, stocktakes, forklift operations, courier coordination, packing layouts, staff training, and safe warehouse maintenance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in warehousing, logistics or stock control.
• NZ Forklift Operator's certificate and full driver’s licence.
• Proficient with MS Excel and MS Office.
• Able to lift/move stock in a physically demanding role.
• Eligible to work in New Zealand without restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Complete weekly counts and monthly stocktakes with reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with wine labelling, export rules and WSMP standards.
• Manage daily warehouse workflow: picking, packing and forklift ops.
• Coordinate couriers and freight for on-time delivery.
• Oversee packing layouts and Wine Club dispatches.
• Train and direct casual staff during high-volume shipments.
• Maintain clean, safe warehouse spaces and equipment.

About the role:

• Location: Gibbston Valley Wines - Otago, Gibbston
• $33.00 to $36.00 depending on the experience

We are seeking a hands-on, organized Warehouse Lead Operator to take ownership of our day-to-day warehouse logistics and inventory operations. Reporting directly to the Head of Wine, you will safeguard our premium wine inventory, maintain precise stock records, and manage smooth dispatch workflows across distributor, export, trade, cellar door, and Wine Club channels. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Complete weekly counts, monthly stocktakes, and record reconciliations
• Ensure full compliance with wine labelling, export rules, and WSMP standards
• Manage daily warehouse workflow, picking, packing, and forklift operations
• Coordinate with couriers and freight suppliers to ensure on-time delivery
• Oversee packing layouts and timely dispatch for Wine Club orders
• Train and direct casual staff during high-volume shipment runs
• Maintain clean warehouse spaces, equipment upkeep, and HSW protocols

About you:

• Minimum 2 years previous in warehousing, logistics, or stock control within a fast-moving environment (wine/beverage sector preferred).
• Hold a NZ Forklift Operator's certificate and the full driver's license
• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Office
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
• Comfortable working hands-on in a physically demanding role (lifting and moving stock) with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Effective verbal and written communicator and positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Eligibility of work in New Zealand without any restrictions.
• A reliable method transport since we’re located about 25 mins from Queenstown CBD
