Job summary

The Winery in Arrowtown, New Zealand, seeks a store leader to oversee daily operations, manage staff, drive retail sales and deliver outstanding customer service to local customers and international visitors.

You will lead by example on the shop floor, coordinate wine and spirits tastings, stock management and associated food and coffee service, and work with owners on rostering, stock orders and supplier relationships.

Qualifications

  • Personable, self-motivated and reliable.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, cellar door or venue management.
  • Wine and spirits knowledge, preferably with WSET qualifications.
  • Leadership style founded on clear communication, accountability and practical common sense.
  • Passion for customer service and creating exceptional experiences.
  • Ability to prioritise and maintain focus in a fast-paced retail and tourism environment.
  • Current Duty Manager certificate preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Building relationships with local customers, international visitors, wineries, suppliers and the local community.
  • Managing stock receipt, inter-store transfers and inventory, including some stock ordering.
  • Input into selecting wines and spirits to be stocked and those that will feature for tasting.
  • Maintaining a professional, organised and positive staff environment.

Job description

You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Arrowtown store's daily operations, managing staff, driving sales and building strong relationships with both local customers and international visitors. You will lead by example on the shop floor setting the standards for the warm and welcoming atmosphere and exceptional customer service The Winery is known for. Your focus will be at the coal-face with customers and co-ordinating the store team for wine and spirit tastings, retail sales and the associated food and coffee service. You will be supported by the business owners who manage the administration functions of staff employment, rostering, ordering stock, supplier relationships, accounts and payroll.

Key responsibilities

Managing the day-to-day operations of the Arrowtown store and driving retail sales.

Leading, training and motivating the team to genuinely connect with customers to assist with tasting and purchase recommendations and to deliver outstanding service experiences.

Building relationships with our local customers, international visitors, wineries, suppliers and the local community.

Managing stock receipt, inter-store transfers and inventory, including some stock ordering.

Input into selecting wines and spirits to be stocked and those that will feature for tasting.

Maintaining a professional, organised and positive staff environment.

About you

Personable, self-motivated and reliable

Previous experience in retail, hospitality, cellar door or venue management

Wine and spirits knowledge, preferably with WSET qualifications

The ability to work independently with a leadership style founded on clear communication, accountability and practical common sense

A passion for customer service and creating exceptional experiences

Ability to prioritise and maintain focus in a fast-paced multifaceted retail and tourism environment

Commercially minded with analytical skills and attention to detail for business processes

Current Duty Manager certificate preferred (or willingness to obtain)
