Job summary

OceanaGold invites a student pursuing a Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance to join our Waihi operation as an intern in the Commercial team. The role runs from mid‑November to mid‑February, with a 9‑day fortnight roster and 40.5 hours per week, on site at Waihi.

You’ll gain practical experience on diverse projects, participate in team activities, and present learnings to Site Management at the end of the internship.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance.
• Full Class 1 Drivers licence (manual preferred).
• Unrestricted New Zealand working rights.
• Available mid-Nov 2026 through to mid-Feb 2027.
• Based at Waihi Operation, NZ.

Job Description

Are you a talented and ambitious student studying towards a Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance and looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Commercial team at OceanaGold working at our Waihi operation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented Commercial team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7:30am to 5:00pm, working a 9-day fortnight roster (5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40.5hrs per week. Take a long weekend every second week to explore the stunning Coromandel!

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

• Work with the property team to identify all known maintenance work required for company residential and commercial rental buildings utilising gap analysis of any work required to meet our obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act.
• Cost maintenance work and budgeting, phased with consideration to deliver on realistic time frames.
• Set up a model to allocate rates paid to individuals properties including active operation sites.
• Capture the condition and rates data in a database.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Completed list of maintenance works per property as agreed with the property team.
• Completion of a budget to address the property maintenance works.
• Asset President approval of the recommended maintenance budget.
• Completion of a database capturing the above data.
