Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine.Arecent consent for the Waihi North Project, anew mine to be developed 6 km north of the existing operation has provided along-term extension of mine life providing our 400 + staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for thelong-term.

Job Description

Are you atalented and ambitious student studying towards aDiploma or Bachelor of Communications, Social Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Design or Journalism and looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our External Affairs and Social Performance team at OceanaGold working at our Waihioperation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented External Affairs and Social Performance team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7 : 00 am to 4 : 30 pm, working a 9 ‑day fortnight roster ( 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40 . 5 hrs per week. Take along weekend every second week to explore the stunningCoromandel!

What will you bedoing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and teammembers.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with awell-rounded knowledge of the miningprocess.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work willinvolve:

  • Content creation for internal and external audiences, e‑newsletter production, event assistanceand other supporting comms elements focused on demonstrating the benefit of mining in Waihi. Educating the general public outside Waihi on mining methods used and the opportunities and progress of the Waihi NorthProject.

Key responsibilities willinclude:

  • To gain agreater understanding about social licence for Waihi miningoperations.

Qualifications

  • Ideally have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas
  • Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles ispreferred)
  • Unrestricted New Zealand workingrights
  • Available from mid-November 2026 through to mid-February 2027
  • In your 2 nd last or final year of role-related study
  • Studying towards aDiploma or Bachelor of Communications, Social Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Design orJournalism
  • Current &strong academic performance and apassion for your chosenfield
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and teamworkskills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
