Job summary

OceanaGold is offering a paid internship at the Waihi operation in New Zealand for students studying Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance. The program runs mid-November 2026 to mid-February 2027, with a 9-day roster, 7:30am–5:00pm, on-site in Waihi.

You will work with the Commercial team on diverse projects, gain hands-on experience, and present your learnings to Site Management at the end of the internship. Accommodation options and NZ working rights are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Ideally have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas.
• Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
• Unrestricted New Zealand working rights
• Available from mid-November 2026 through to mid-February 2027
• In your 2nd last or final year of study

Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long-term extension of mine life providing our 400+ staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.

Are you a talented and ambitious student studying towards a Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance and looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Commercial team at OceanaGold working at our Waihi operation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented Commercial team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7:30am to 5:00pm, working a 9-day fortnight roster (5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40.5hrs per week. Take a long weekend every second week to explore the stunning Coromandel!

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

• Work with the property team to identify all known maintenance work required for company residential and commercial rental buildings utilising gap analysis of any work required to meet our obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act.
• Cost maintenance work and budgeting, phased with consideration to deliver on realistic time frames.
• Set up a model to allocate rates paid to individuals properties including active operation sites.
• Capture the condition and rates data in a database.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Completed list of maintenance works per property as agreed with the property team.
• Completion of a budget to address the property maintenance works.
• Asset President approval of the recommended maintenance budget.
• Completion of a database capturing the above data.
