Job summary

OceanaGold invites a motivated IT student to join our Commercial (IT) team at Waihi. You’ll work on real-life projects, applying your information technology studies in a mining context and gaining practical experience on-site.

The internship runs mid‑November through mid‑February, with 7:30–17:30 hours and a 9-day fortnight. Accommodation assistance and mentoring are provided to help you succeed and grow.

Qualifications

  • Ideally enrolled in aBachelor of Information Technology, majoring in infrastructure and IT engineering.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • NZ residency and availability from mid-November 2026 to mid-February 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Gaining practical experience on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
  • Participating in group activities and projects with other interns to gain broad mining IT exposure.
  • Presenting experiences and key learnings to Site Management at internship end.

Job Description

Are you atalented and ambitious student studying towards aBachelor of Information Technology, majoring in infrastructure and IT engineering and looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Commercial (IT) team at OceanaGold working at our Waihioperation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented Commercial (IT) team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7 : 30 am to 5 : 30 pm, working a 9 ‑day fortnight roster ( 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40 . 5 hrs per week. Take along weekend every second week to explore the stunningCoromandel!

What will you bedoing?
  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and teammembers.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with awell-rounded knowledge of the miningprocess.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.
Specific project work will involve:
  • This project will improve the accuracy and accessibility of OceanaGold Waihi’s network documentation by implementing NetBox as the central source of truth for network assets and infrastructure across key sites. It includes documenting and validating network devices, circuits, VLANs, IP addressing, and connectivity, while updating physical network documentation such as topology diagrams, cabling, fibre links, and site interconnections. The project will enhance network management, improve operational efficiency, support troubleshooting and maintenance, and reduce reliance on individualknowledge.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Project milestones include defining the project scope and documentation requirements, reviewing and validating network infrastructure and existing records across key Waihi sites, and populating NetBox with accurate network asset and connectivity information. The project will identify and resolve documentation gaps, verify physical network infrastructure, develop updated network diagrams, complete stakeholder review and quality assurance, and deliver afinal documentation package with recommendations for ongoing NetBox maintenance andgovernance.
