Job summary

OceanaGold Corporation is offering a paid internship at our Waihi operation in New Zealand for a student studying towards a BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences. The role runs mid-November to mid-February, with a 9-day fortnight roster, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, and on-site work.

Job Description

Are you atolented and ambitious student studying towards aBachelor of Science (BSc),with amajor in Geology or Earth Sciencesand looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Resource Development—Exploration &Geology team at OceanaGold working at our Waihioperation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented Resource Development—Exploration &Geology team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7 : 00 am to 4 : 30 pm, working a 9 ‑day fortnight roster ( 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40 . 5 hrs per week. Take along weekend every second week to explore the stunningCoromandel!

What will you bedoing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and teammembers.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with awell-rounded knowledge of the miningprocess.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work willinvolve:

  • The internship will provide practical geological and mining industry experience through participation in core logging, sampling programmes, database management support, and Resource Development activities. The intern will work alongside the Resource Development team to assist with geological data collection and interpretation while gaining exposure to exploration and orebody knowledgeprocesses.

Key responsibilities willinclude:

  • Complete site inductions within the firstweek.
  • Receive training in geological core logging and samplingprocedures.
  • Assist with routine core logging and geological data collection activities (eg. field mapping andsampling).
  • Support sample dispatch, tracking, and QA/QCprocesses.
  • Assist with geological database validation and data entrytasks.
  • Improve logging productivity and reduce backlog of geological dataprocessing.
  • Provide additional capacity for the Resource Development team during the summer fieldseason.
  • Deliver afinal presentation summarizing internship learnings and contributions to thedepartment.
