Job summary

Dunedin City Council invites casual Visitor Hosts to join our team at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Toitū Otago Settlers Museum and Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden.

You will welcome visitors, provide information, assist with Gift Shop sales, and support during private events and programmes. Availability for weekends, evenings and public holidays around Christmas is essential.

Looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend the festive season? Join our team of Casual Visitor Hosts and help make Christmas memorable for visitors from near and far.

We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join our pool of Casual Visitor Hosts at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Toitū Otago Settlers Museum and Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden.

As a Visitor Host, you will be responsible for providing a friendly and informative welcome to visitors, monitoring visitor activity and assisting with the sale of souvenirs at the Gift Shop. The successful candidates will also be responsible for assisting with the running of private events and visitor programmes.

About you:

Along with an interest in museums in general, the ideal candidates will have excellent customer service skills, strong communication skills, experience in reception or retail environments and have the flexibility to work through the summer period, in particular the weeks surrounding Christmas.

As part of this team, you will work on a casual basis and because we are a seven-day operation, have the ability and flexibility to work some weekdays, weekends, evenings and public holidays.

Applicants must be available to work on at least one, and preferably more, of the following days:

• Christmas Eve
• Boxing Day
• New Year’s Day
