Charter in Christchurch is seeking an experienced Trainer to raise team performance through practical coaching, inductions and in-cab training across transport operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will monitor performance, drive safety standards and support continuous improvement with hands-on delivery.
The role requires Class 5 driving experience and strong knowledge of NZ transport legislation, plus experience in training or leadership within transport.

Charter is looking for an experienced Trainer who can bring credibility, practical knowledge and a genuine passion for helping our team perform at their best. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will deliver induction and training, monitor performance and support continuous improvement across the transport and logistics operation.
This is a great fit for someone who enjoys being close to the action - delivering classroom training, coaching drivers in-cab and on the road, reviewing EROAD data and working alongside operations to strengthen safety, capability and performance.
Delivery of classroom-based and practical training, including new employee induction, in-cab coaching, load planning and security and assessments
Coaching and mentoring our team to strengthen professionalism, safe driving practices, capability and continuous improvement
Driver performance monitoring through EROAD, with targeted follow-up coaching where improvement opportunities are identified
Accurate training of the Transport Management System (TMS) and company reporting systems
Training and reinforcement of daily vehicle inspections, defect reporting, incident reporting and maintenance procedures
Refresher training, competency assessments and employee development plans in partnership with operations and management
Support for incident, accident and near-miss investigations, including outcome-based coaching to minimise future risk and improve performance
Promotion of Charter health and safety standards, transport legislation, company policies and operational compliance requirements
Previous Class 5 driving experience and strong practical knowledge of heavy transport or logistics operations
Experience in a training, supervisory, mentoring or leadership role within the transport industry
A sound understanding of New Zealand transport legislation, freight operations, road safety and defensive driving principles
Experience using EROAD and Transport Management Systems, with confidence working with electronic reporting and documentation
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage, coach and mentor people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels
Strong organisation, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities with a calm, practical approach
