Job summary

HEB Construction in Amberley (North Canterbury) is seeking a motivated Tail Pilot Driver to join our road maintenance crew. The role supports safe, efficient operations and involves working with a Team Leader to warn road users and manage short-duration works on the network.

This hands-on position extends beyond driving, including day and night shifts, emergency responses, and roster coverage. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Full Class 1 Driver Licence is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety.
• Reliable, punctual and team oriented with a positive attitude.
• Clear and effective communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Tail Pilot vehicles in support of moving and short-stop works.
• Provide advance warning to road users and help maintain safe work zones.
• Support road maintenance crews with operational tasks as required.
• Participate in day and night works, including emergency and call-out responses.
• Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections and ensure operational readiness.
• Communicate effectively with Team Leaders, crew members, and road users.
• Promote a strong safety culture and comply with all requirements.
• Contribute to the safe, efficient delivery of maintenance activities across the network.
