Job summary

Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers is seeking an experienced IT Systems/Network Engineer for an onsite Auckland role. You will maintain mixed Linux/Windows environments, manage core networking, virtualization, and storage, and drive automation to improve stability.

The position requires 2–4 years in systems or network engineering with hands-on administration, cloud familiarity, and containerization exposure. On-call is not required for this role.

Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in a Systems Engineering or Network Engineering role (ideally with experience across both).
• Solid Linux & Windows Server capability: Practical experience in Linux system administration alongside Active Directory and PowerShell.
• Core Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of switching, routing protocols (BGP), TCP/IP, VLANs, and firewall/VPN management.
• Virtualisation Experience: Practical skill with VMware, Proxmox, or Hyper-V platforms.
• Troubleshooting Mindset: Strong, methodical problem-solving skills with a drive to get to the root cause of issues.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Exposure to containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) or CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Systems Administration: Maintain and scale Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) and Windows Server environments (Active Directory, IIS, PowerShell).
• Network Infrastructure: Configure and troubleshoot LAN/WAN switches (Cisco, Aruba, HP), VLANs, VPNs, routing protocols (BGP, TCP/IP), STP, and LACP.
• Virtualisation & Storage: Administer VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, and SAN storage systems (NetApp, TrueNAS).
• Escalation & Incident Management: Triage escalated tickets, diagnose root causes, collect logs, and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurring issues.
• Monitoring & Alerting: Maintain robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (Grafana, Nagios, Prometheus, ELK Stack, Datadog).
• Backups & Disaster Recovery: Oversee backup coverage, resolve failures, and perform regular system restore testing.
• Automation & Scripting: Use PowerShell, Python, or Shell scripting to automate repetitive operational tasks.

About the Role:

Are you a hands on IT all rounder who thrives on tackling complex technical challenges across networks and systems?
The client is a well-established, multi-national commercial group. The role is positioned between frontline service desk monitoring and senior architecture, this role acts as the primary technical problem solver and project executor for our regional infrastructure.
You will ensure high availability and stability across a mixed Linux/Windows environment, core networking, virtualisation, and storage platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Administration: Maintain and scale Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) and Windows Server environments (Active Directory, IIS, PowerShell).

Network Infrastructure: Configure and troubleshoot LAN/WAN switches (Cisco, Aruba, HP), VLANs, VPNs, routing protocols (BGP, TCP/IP), STP, and LACP.
