Job description

We’re Wētā Workshop – a design and manufacture facility making imaginary worlds a reality… from creatures to costumes, make-up to miniatures, weapons, vehicles, worlds and more! Our crew strive each day to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with physical effects.

Our IT team provide the technical support to keep our systems, tools, applications and hardware running so that our crew can do what they do best.

We’re looking for a Systems Administrator to join the team – a hands-on role bridging our Systems Engineers and IT Support Technicians.

Our Systems Administrators:

  • Administer core business systems (Odoo ERP, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, security tooling, and production software), managing changes through proper change control.

  • Manage identity and access, including provisioning, permissions, and regular access reviews.

  • Own the SOE, workstation builds, endpoint management, and software/hardware deployment across the fleet, acting as escalation point for Support Technicians.

  • Administer Windows/Linux servers and virtualisation, handle patching, monitoring, backups, and network troubleshooting.

  • Support specialist production technology (3D printing/scanning, manufacturing systems, high-performance workstations).

  • Uphold security standards, remediate vulnerabilities, and assist during security incidents.

  • Contribute to systems/infrastructure projects, automate routine tasks, and support development work under DevOps guidance.

You’ll also mentor our Support Technicians and help with training.

You can find out all the details in our job description here.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running – you’ll know systems administration and have at least 5 years’ experience in the IT world. You will be a proactive, methodical troubleshooter, who fixes root causes – and have sound judgement on fix vs escape vs change process.

Ideally, you’ll have experience in industries with high security requirements (e.g. banking, insurance, legal, defence etc).

You’ll be collaborative, service-minded and have good people skills – our team want to make sure our crew can get on with their work.

On the technical side we’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong Microsoft stack skills (M365, AD, Entra, Azure, Group Policy)

  • Business application administration (ideally ERP) with formal change management

  • Windows fleet endpoint management, software packaging and deployment

  • Windows Server administration and enterprise networking in practice

  • Virtualisation experience (VMware, Hyper-V etc)

  • Solid security fundamentals (patching, hardening, least privilege, access control and credential handling)

  • Experience and confidence with new and emerging technologies, including AI, and the ability to apply them to day-to-day operations, automation and improvements, within our established process and governance standards.

More info and next steps:

This is IT, but not as you know it. We’re not your standard corporate office making widgets or counting numbers – you’ll be part of a team that helps our crew bring creatures, worlds, props, robots … etc to life.

The IT team are a supportive crew and will make sure you get the best possible start.

We’re based in Miramar, Wellington - this is predominantly an onsite role, but there may be options for flexibility so please let us know what you need when you apply.

We’re looking for someone to start asap, we’ll be reviewing applications as they come in so please don’t wait too long before applying!

You’ll need to have the right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
