Cyber Security Engineer - Cloud & Ops

We are looking for an intermediate Security Engineer to join a highly respected technology organization that operates broadband networks in New Zealand and invests heavily in cyber security. This permanent role focuses on cloud infrastructure and security operations, protecting critical platforms and working alongside senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, investigate, and respond to security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities.
• Design, implement, and improve security controls to strengthen cloud, network, endpoint, and ecosystem security.
• Lead vulnerability management activities, collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams to prioritize and remediate risks.
• Maintain, support, and optimise key security platforms, including the Microsoft security suite, enterprise firewalls, and email gateways.
• Create clear, accessible security procedures, baselines, and project documentation for internal teams to promote secure development lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Valid New Zealand work rights.
• Approximately 3+ years of dedicated experience in a Security Engineer, SOC Analyst, or Security Operations role.
• Strong practical knowledge of MS Sentinel (SIEM/KQL/Lucene), Defender Suite, and Entra ID/Azure AD.
• Real‑world experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise network firewalls (Fortinet or Palo Alto experience is an advantage).
• Ability to articulate security risks and the underlying rationale to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Confidence to provide constructive feedback to high‑pressure requests that introduce unacceptable risks, always offering safer technical alternatives.
• Exposure to Python, Ansible, Windows, and Linux environments.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
