About the role

As our Student Support Ambassador, you will be the friendly, reliable face students turn to when things get tough, whether that is navigating an assessment extension, finding the right learning support, or reaching out for wellbeing care in a moment of need. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academics, you will act as the vital link between students, academic staff, and the wider College community.

What you will do
  • Be the first point of contact for students needing academic support, holding regular office hours for student guidance.

  • Refer students to the right support options, including lecturer office hours, PASS sessions, tutoring, and library workshops.
  • Be the first point of contact for students needing mental health and wellbeing pastoral care, responding to acute wellbeing and emergency needs.
  • Manage the after-hours emergency phone service
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our diverse learner groups, and champion learner voice across the College.
  • Coordinate student soft skills programmes, clubs, and contract counsellors.
  • Support orientation and induction, and contribute to College events such as graduation and Lyceum.
  • Keep accurate, Privacy Act-compliant records of student interactions, and contribute to our Pastoral Care Code of Practice compliance and annual audit.
About you

You will bring:

  • Experience in pastoral care, student support, counselling, or training.
  • Exposure to academic and enrolment systems and processes (desirable, not essential).
  • A high level of cultural awareness and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with a wide range of people and personalities, and the ability to build genuine rapport.
  • Sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy when supporting students through sensitive situations.
  • Willingness to be available out of hours for the pastoral care emergency phone line.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general technology confidence.

Above all, you will be empathetic, professional, and genuinely invested in student success, with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong sense of integrity.

At NZCC, our values of excellence, discovery, community, service, and vitality guide everything we do. You will be part of a close-knit College community with real opportunities to make a meaningful, visible difference in students' lives, while growing your own career in student support and pastoral care.
