Within Te Kāhu Tauira - Student and Scholarly Services, Te Papa Manaaki - Campus Care provides early intervention and personal and wellbeing support to students. Our team helps students navigate challenges, connect with the right support, and overcome barriers that may affect their wellbeing and success.

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Clinical Case Manager to join our Te Papa Manaaki - Campus Care team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to students who may be experiencing complex personal, wellbeing, or mental health challenges.

As a Clinical Case Manager, you'll work directly with students, staff, and members of the University community to understand concerns, assess needs, and connect students with the right support. Using a case management approach, you'll develop individual support plans, provide advocacy, and facilitate warm transfers to specialist services both within the University and in the wider community.

You'll help make what can sometimes feel like a complicated University environment easier to navigate, ensuring students receive timely, appropriate, and respectful support.

This role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who brings strong clinical or wellbeing expertise, excellent judgement, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and triaging referrals and concerns from students, staff, and members of the University community.
• Gathering information, assessing risk, and developing appropriate support plans and referral pathways.
• Connecting students with the right support, from self-help resources through to specialist internal and external services.
• Providing advocacy and ongoing case management for students with multiple or complex needs.
• Responding to sensitive and potentially high-risk situations with professionalism, care, and sound judgement.
• Maintaining accurate case notes, reports, and confidential records while ensuring information is handled appropriately.
• Building strong relationships with University teams and community support providers to ensure students can access the right help.
• Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying trends, barriers, and opportunities to strengthen the service.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on a fixed-term contract for 18 months.

Remuneration is $87,000 - $107,500 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

You are an experienced practitioner who genuinely enjoys supporting young people and helping people navigate challenging circumstances.

You bring a calm, empathetic, and professional approach, with the confidence to work with sensitive information and make sound decisions when situations are complex or require timely action.

You'll be comfortable listening to students, understanding their individual circumstances, and working collaboratively to develop practical pathways forward. You also enjoy building relationships and working alongside colleagues and external providers to ensure students receive holistic support.

Most importantly, you'll bring a strong commitment to student wellbeing, equity, culturally responsive practice, and supporting students to overcome barriers to success.

• A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, occupational therapy, mental health nursing, or a similar allied health field, together with current registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
• Proficiency in Te Reo Māori or Pacific languages is a must‑have in this role.
• At least five years' experience working with or providing mental health support to students or young people.
• Demonstrated experience using a case management approach to support individuals with a range of needs.
• Strong understanding of issues affecting students and young people, with the ability to work confidently with sensitive matters.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building, listening, and problem‑solving skills.
• Cultural competence and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for professional practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and learning new University systems.

The following would be beneficial:

• Experience working within a tertiary environment and an understanding of student needs.
• Knowledge of relevant University and community‑based health, wellbeing, and support services.

Te Papa Manaaki - Campus Care coordinates personal and wellbeing support for students. It provides early and holistic support with the aim of preventing further escalation, reducing the burden on the student of accessing help, minimising duplication and gaps in service provision across support providers, and minimising the burden on academic and other non-support staff of assessment and referral requirements.
