Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay Hospital is seeking a Sterile Sciences Technician on a casual basis. You will ensure sterilisation, cleaning and preparation of reusable medical devices and instruments for perioperative services, supporting surgical teams with high safety standards.

Qualifications

• NZ Sterilising Technology Certificate Level 4 or approved equivalent.
• Experience in sterile sciences, CSSD or healthcare environment.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive approach to learning, continuous improvement and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Clean, inspect, sterilise and prepare reusable medical devices and surgical instruments to high quality and safety standards.
• Work within the Perioperative Unit to support surgical and clinical teams.
• Maintain instrument tracking systems and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

About the Role

As a Sterile Sciences Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring reusable medical devices and surgical instruments are cleaned, inspected, sterilised, and prepared to the highest quality and safety standards. Working within the Perioperative Unit, you will contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of healthcare services by supporting surgical and clinical teams across the organisation. This is a hands - on, technical role where attention to detail is essential. You will work with specialised equipment and instrument tracking systems, maintain compliance with industry standards, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives. As part of a collaborative team, you will help ensure that critical equipment is available, safe, and ready for patient care when it is needed most.
