Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking an experienced Pilot Driver to join a Taupō-based road maintenance crew. The role involves driving a pilot ute around active roadworks and mobile worksites to keep crews and road users safe.

Ideal candidates will have a Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence, know temporary traffic management, and be able to pass MOJ checks and a pre-employment drug test. Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand and be willing to work on-site in Taupō.

Qualifications

• Full Class 1 NZ driving licence is required.
• Experience driving near roadworks or civil worksites is preferred.
• Understanding of Temporary Traffic Management and safety around live traffic.

Responsibilities

• Drive a pilot ute in front of or behind road maintenance crews.
• Operate warning lights, signage and safety equipment on the vehicle.
• Monitor traffic and hazards around the worksite.
• Communicate with the maintenance crew and follow instructions.
• Follow site directions from the person in charge.
• Work safely around live traffic and mobile roadworks.
• Complete training and be signed off as competent to operate the pilot ute.

• Good understanding of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) and working safely around live traffic.
• Confident operating a pilot ute and its warning equipment/signage.
• Able to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Must have the right to work in New Zealand.
