Job summary

Higgins is seeking a motivated Site Engineer to join the Construction Team in Wellington. This hands-on role suits someone early in their engineering career, aiming to grow capability across surfacing and civil projects.

You’ll contribute to road construction, chipseal, asphalt, and related works while learning from experienced leaders and supporting safety and quality standards within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Some experience in civil construction, roading, or engineering support roles (internships and graduate experience are welcome)
  • An understanding of civil construction practices, with exposure to construction or surfacing operations advantageous
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering (NZDCE, BE Civil, or equivalent)
  • A willingness to learn from experienced engineers and operational leaders
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and an interest in developing digital and technical skills
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and commitment to health and safety
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and coordination of daily construction and surfacing activities, including road construction, subdivision, chipseal, asphalt, and preparation works
  • Assist with preparing quotes, estimates, and basic pricing for construction and surfacing projects
  • Coordinate plant, labour, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Prepare and compile job work packs for approval, including JSEAs, Method Statements, and ITPs
  • Monitor project progress, quality requirements, and site documentation
  • Assist with tracking project costs and financial performance
  • Build strong working relationships with crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Promote safe work practices and support Higgins' safety, quality, and environmental standards

Description

Higgins Wairarapa is looking for a motivated and hands-on Site Engineer to join our Construction Team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their engineering career who is keen to build their capability across a diverse range of surfacing and civil construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
