Job summary

Cafe South in Otago is hiring a permanent Short Order Cook to support our morning chef during busy lunch service. You’ll cook short‑order meals, prep food, wash dishes and help keep the kitchen running smoothly.

This role offers around 32 hours per week with daytime shifts (typically 10am–6:30pm), four days a week, and some extra shifts possible. We value reliability, a proactive team mindset and pride in presentation and cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Previous café/kitchen experience preferred – but a positive attitude is just as important!
• Able to work under pressure in a busy café kitchen
• Comfortable with physical work and standing for long periods

Responsibilities

• Help morning chef during busy lunch shifts, cooking short‑order meals
• Prep food, wash dishes
• Take charge of full kitchen clean at the end of the day

You’ll be helping our morning chef during busy lunch shifts, cooking short-order meals, prepping food, washing dishes, and taking charge of a full kitchen clean at the end of the day. We’re a small, hands-on team — everyone pitches in, and reliability matters.

The Details:

• Permanent role – approx. 32 hours per week

• Approx. 4 days per week, typically 10am – 6:30pm — and if you’re after more hours, extra shifts can be available.

• Must be available weekends and public holidays (we’re open 364 days a year, closed Christmas Day)

• Involves short order cooking, food prep, dishwashing, and full kitchen clean

• Daytime hours only – no late nights

• Supportive, small team environment
