Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 16th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Our kitchen serves travellers, locals and commuters throughout the day, so we need someone who can keep up in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in a tidy, well-run kitchen and enjoys being part of a supportive team.

In line with the standard tasks for this occupation, you will:

  • Assemble, wash and pack dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots and cooking equipment, and put them away
  • Clean and maintain kitchen work areas, food preparation surfaces, floors, fridges and equipment to food-safety standards
  • Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning ingredients
  • Prepare simple food items such as sandwiches, hot drinks and basic takeaway orders
  • Receive, unpack and store food deliveries and supplies in the correct storage and temperature-controlled areas
  • Dispose of kitchen rubbish and food waste and keep waste areas clean
  • Follow all health, hygiene and food-safety procedures at all times
  • Arelevant experience of one year or qualification preferred

Beyond these duties, we're after someone who genuinely contributes to the smooth running of the food section day to day. That means keeping the servery and customer-facing food areas clean and well stocked, helping restock the fridges and display units during quieter periods, and giving the wider team a hand at busy times such as morning rush and weekends. You'll be expected to spot when something needs cleaning or restocking without being asked, handle equipment carefully, and report any maintenance or stock issues to the supervisor. Because we operate long hours seven days a week, some flexibility around shifts — including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays — is important. Full training in our kitchen systems, cleaning schedules and food-safety practices will be provided.

About you
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift stock and work in a warm kitchen environment
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a strong focus on cleanliness and hygiene
  • Previous experience in a kitchen, café, takeaway or hospitality setting is an advantage but not essential — willingness to learn matters most
  • Good basic communication skills in English
  • Available to work a rotating roster across weekdays, weekends and public holidays
What we offer
  • $26.00 – $32.00 per hour, based on skills and experience
  • Guaranteed full-time hours (minimum 30 per week)
  • On-the-job training and a friendly, supportive team
  • A stable, permanent position with a well-established local business
