Job summary

MAS is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, Security to join the IT Operations team on a 12-month fixed term basis. The role can be based in either the Wellington or Auckland offices, with a focus on securing and optimizing our infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks and end-user services.

You'll combine systems engineering with security best practice, supporting vulnerability management, monitoring and incident response while collaborating with internal teams and security partners.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting Windows, Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Strong infrastructure administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of identity and access management, vulnerability management, monitoring and endpoint security.
• Familiarity with Microsoft security technologies such as Entra ID, Defender, Intune or Sentinel.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining secure operation of infrastructure, cloud services and critical systems.
• Managing servers, networks and cloud environments with patching and secure configuration.
• Investigating and resolving complex incidents and operational issues.
• Supporting vulnerability management, security monitoring and endpoint protection.

Are you a hands-on infrastructure and security professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems while helping maintain secure and resilient technology environments?

We're looking for a Senior Systems Engineer, Security to join our IT Operations team on a 12-month fixed term basis. In this role, you'll help support and enhance the secure operation of our infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks and end-user technology services while working closely with internal teams, vendors and security partners. This role can be based in either our Wellington or Auckland Offices.

About the role

This is a varied role that combines systems engineering, operational support and security best practice. You'll play a key part in maintaining and improving our technology environment, supporting the delivery of technology initiatives and helping strengthen MAS's security posture.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• Supporting the secure operation of infrastructure, cloud services and business-critical systems.
• Managing server, network and cloud environments, including patching, upgrades and secure configuration.
• Investigating and resolving complex incidents and operational issues.
• Supporting vulnerability management, security monitoring and endpoint protection activities.
• Contributing to disaster recovery, business continuity and operational resilience initiatives.
• Providing technical guidance to colleagues and stakeholders while supporting continuous improvement across IT Operations.

About you

You'll bring a strong systems engineering background along with experience working in modern Microsoft and cloud environments.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

• Experience supporting Windows, Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Strong infrastructure administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of identity and access management, vulnerability management, monitoring and endpoint security.
• Experience with Microsoft security technologies such as Entra ID, Defender, Intune or Sentinel.
• Networking experience, ideally in Cisco environments.
• Exposure to incident response, risk reduction and security improvement initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer-focused approach.

Relevant tertiary qualifications and industry certifications across Microsoft, cloud, networking or cyber security disciplines will be highly regarded.
