Job summary

Statistics New Zealand, based in Wellington, seeks a Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer for a fixed-term role through December 2028. Lead cloud engineering across Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Purview, Databricks, and related services to deliver secure, governed cloud platforms.

You’ll drive automation, governance, and security controls while mentoring engineers and partnering with security, architecture, and operations teams on strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud services.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft Entra ID, identity and access management, and cloud security.
• Experience implementing governance, compliance, information protection, and security controls across enterprise cloud environments.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation skills, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and service reliability.
• Strong understanding of cloud operations, incident management, troubleshooting, and continuous service improvement.
• Experience working with DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (including Terraform), infrastructure automation, and cloud platform administration.
• Ability to contribute to cloud architecture, standards, roadmaps, and strategic technology initiatives.
• Proven technical leadership skills, including mentoring and supporting other engineers.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• A passion for building secure, reliable, and future‑focused cloud platforms that deliver real organisational value.
• Competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application is valued; proficiency in te reo Māori welcomed.
